computer freezes

My windows 98 SE computer freezes and makes clicking or crackling sounds
just before playing the sound it was going to. Sometimes if it's busy it
even makes the noises when no sounds are played. while it's frozen keyboard
mouse internet and time stops. so my clock is then off, but when it
unfreezes my mouse keyboard and internet catch up very quickly sometimes
missing commands or creating errors. The freezes can be between 100ms up to
5 minutes.

And a very strange thing happened just now(unrelated) my volume went to
zero, my computer went to shutdown screen, then explorer crashed and had
"invalid fault in kernel" and wouldn't go away, then i ran my anti-virus but
there was nothing in memory. I restarted, then my msn messenger and outlook
froze. this never happened before. Just yesterday is the first time so
many applications started freezing and the clicking noises started.

Here's all my processes so you know if i have viruses, etc, i'll include
versions too(but i know none of them are viruses themselves, and the clicks
are unrelated, before i reinstalled windows i had the same problem ad few
months ago):

Maybe I shouldn't have brought up my virus suspicion cause im sure i don't
have one, all i need help with is my freezing with clicking sounds, please
