A continuación les transcribo parte de un boletín de cnet que he recibido
hoy y al respecto quisiera saber si es conveniente o no tener activado otro
firewall además del de windows xp y que problemas o conflictos pudiera
haber.

Firewall fun
The latest round of computer-worm attacks put me in a mood to look for a new
firewall. Now, I have no complaints about ZoneAlarm, which currently
protects my computer, but I like to keep up with new developments. In my
quest, I looked at Tiny Personal Firewall, Sygate Personal Firewall and
Personal Firewall. (Yes, I know Windows XP comes with a built-in firewall,
but I'm not ready to trust Microsoft with security.)

Not only did Tiny Personal Firewall's interface give me a headache, but it
also pre-approved applications for Internet access that I wouldn't
necessarily have allowed. I don't see why Microsoft Word needs access, for
example. It also locked up my test machine. Sygate was an improvement; in
its initial configuration, it asked me to approve programs for Internet
access. But that process became tedious, as Sygate seemed to find every
component and application with Internet capabilities, presenting me with a
list of more than a hundred. Personal Firewall took a different (and perhaps
less useful) approach: It just scanned my incoming IP addresses and let me
block them.

I would like to be able to tell you that I found some cool new firewall
software, but after my research I'm sticking with ZoneAlarm. It strikes the
best balance between pre-approving programs for Internet access and letting
you approve new programs on the fly. It works well and presents adequate
configuration options for most home users, and I trust it.

What's your favorite firewall? Let me know at newsletters@download.com.

firewall.
