SP2 vs Divx: Al pulsar botón derecho del ratón se reinicia explorer.exe y se cuelga drwtsn32.exe

Pues eso es exactamente lo que me ha pasado tras instalar Service Pack 2:
Cuando pulso con el botón derecho del ratón sobre un archivo o intento
eliminarlo con el teclado, se me queda el ordenador trabado, hasta que sale
un error de drwtsn32.exe y una vez finalizo el proceso se reinicia
explorer.exe.

Por si a alguien le ha pasado, en mi caso el problema estaba ocasionado por
alguna instalación de divx o dr.divx (hace tiempo que no lo tengo pero
quizás se dejó algo en el registro).

hourglass, Taskbar disappears and after about 30 seconds the screen comes
back to normal and still no right click options are available. This behavior
may be seen after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2. However, it's not a
problem caused by Service Pack 2, but an incompatible Context-menu handler
from DivX.

Update 9/8/2004 : DivX software and Windows XP SP2 or
http://support.divx.com

DivX 5.2.1, DivX Pro 5.2.1, and Dr DivX 1.0.6 have been released. These
versions are compatible with Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and can be downloaded
from www.divx.com. Please follow the guidelines below only if you wish to
use older versions of these products on Windows XP SP2.

RESOLUTION (for older versions of DivX)

Eliminate the context-menu handler from the registry, or disable it
temporarily using ShellExView tool.

Method 1: Eliminate the context-menu handler

Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT. Navigate to:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\EncodeDivXExt]

Backup the key to a REG file, and delete EncodeDivXExt key

Close Registry Editor and restart Windows

Method 2: Disable the DivX context-menu handler using ShellExView tool

See this page for more information on using ShellExView utility (see Method
2 in that page). In ShellExView, the entry might read as EncodeDivXExt

Efectivamente, las versiones anteriores a la 5.2.1 o a DrDivX 1.6 son causa de casques... y esto lo hemos comentado decenas de veces.

Y las ultimas que he citado antes, no son santo de mi devocion tampoco debido al altisimo consumo de CPU. Otros visores capaces de ver DivX... son el XviD y el 3ivx por lo que mi consejo es olvidarnos, si no es necesario codificar por el momento que existe DivX. Desistalarlo y usar alguno de los anteriores (no solo por su menor consumo, sino porque parecen mas estables, al menos hasta que DivX tome cartas en el asunto y recodifique correctamente su software).
