Ventana de autentificacion del explorer

Hola a todos.

Tengo un problema a la hora de pasar automáticamente un user/pass a una
página web.

Antes del parche de seguridad MS04-004 Cumulative Security Update for
Internet Explorer (832894) que se puede ver aquí:

yo estaba accediendo a unas páginas que solicitan user/pass con el formato
http(s)://username:password@server

pero ahora se han isntalado los parches de seguridad y ya no me deja hacerlo
así.

Las páginas en concreto muestran la típica ventanita del explorer con
user/pass.

¿existe alguna otra forma de pasarle el user/pass en la llamada a la página
automáticamente sin que lo tenga que escribir el usuario? En esas páginas no
hay forms de login ni nada parecido, simplemente sale la ventanita del
explorer.

Por cierto. Esa ventanita del explorer ¿sólo funciona en el explorer?

Vaya, pues con tanta letra se me pasó.

Me imagino que te refieres a la sección que dice "Workarounds for
application and Web site developers"

La acabo de leer, pero no he comprendido demasiado bien lo que dice.

For objects that use an HTTP or an HTTPS URL that includes user information
when they call a WinInet or Urlmon function such as InternetOpenURL, rewrite
the object to use one of the following methods to send user information to
the Web site:
a.. Use the InternetSetOption function and include the following option
flags:
a.. INTERNET_OPTION_USERNAME
b.. INTERNET_OPTION_PASSWORD
Note For these flags, the InternetSetOption option must have a handle
returned by the InternetConnect function. Therefore, if the application uses
the InternetOpenUrl function, modify the application to use the

Aquí habla de WinInet y Urlmon, de InternetOpenURL y de más cosas que no sé
qué son. Yo simplemente hacía un enlace a la página con <a href> pero ahora
no sé qué debo hacer. ¿Me puedes ayudar a entender esto?
