Error al instalar software o drivers

Estimados amigos:
Desde hace unos días atras, cada vez que he tratado de instalar algún
software o driver, no me permite y me aparece un mensaje que dice "The
Windows Instaler Service could not be accessed. This can ocurr if you are
running Windows in Safe Mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

Que Windows Installer tenés?

Probá actualizando Windows XP hasta la ùltima release.

Menú inicio/ejecutar --> services.ms
Una vez ahí activa el servicio 'Windows installer

Hola,a ver si me puedes ayudar con esto.No se donde dirigirme,tengo el error
code:BCCode 1000008e BCP1:C0000005 BCP2 FC8EA9FD BCP3: F57D1AD4
BCP4:00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP:0_0 Product:256_1
Esto me sucedio durante la transferencia de data de mi cel a mi laptop(XP
