Te dejo unas instrucciones al respecto:

1. Haz clic con el botón derecho sobre el icono de acceso directo de Internet Explorer y selecciona Propiedades de Internet.
2. Pulsa la pestaña Conexiones.
3. Haz clic sobre el botón Configuración de LAN.
4. Desmarca todas las casillas del panel que se abrirá.
5. Haz clic sobre Aceptar dos veces para cerrar todos los paneles abiertos.
6. Accede a Inicio, Ejecutar y escribe (sin comillas): "cmd". En la ventana de línea de comandos teclea lo siguiente (nuevamente sin comillas): "proxycfg -d".
7. Reinicia el sistema y trata de acceder a Windows Update.

No sirvio... el equipo opera con direccion IP estática, ya realice un script
para resetear la configuración de red y del protocolo que está fallando:
Abri una ventana de símbolo de sistema.
Introduje los siguientes comandos:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset \iplog.txt
netsh winsock reset catalog
y reinicie el equipo.
Devolvi la direccion IP al equipo y probe con el mismo resultado.
Hice el script: MAJDLL.CMD (Abri un archivo de texto con el block de notas y
copie lo siguiente:)

... lo guarde en el escritorio... lo ejecute... reinicie el equipo y todo
igual... el mismo error!

Ahora descubri que el los demas equipo con WinXP-Pro+SP2 o con Win2000 Pro.
presentan el mismo error... a excepcion de uno... el equipo que esta enlazado
directamente a internet y es el que tiene el Kerio WinRouter Firewall... ese
equipo si se actualiza!. Por lo que dedusco que es una incompatibilidad entre
ese programa y el sitio de windows update... algo cambio que ya no deja
actualizar a los equipos que estan detras del WinRoute.

Abre Kerio Winroute, pulsa Configuration, Content Filtering, HTTP Policy. Revisa en la pestaña URL Rules que esté marcada la casilla "Allow MS Windows automatic updates".
