error en instalacion win xp

Saludos a todos. Prendi mi pc con sistema operativo win2k
y me salio el siguiente mensaje:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\system32\config\system
Luego que podia reparlo con el cd de xp. Segui las instrucciones y por un
momento funciono el sistema, luego me dio otros errores y decidi mejor
hacer
una instalacion nueva de xp (es xp home edition). Luego de que formateo el
disco comienza la instalacion, y windows comienza a grabar los files etc
etc
me sale este error:
The file explorer.exe was not copied correctly. The file setup placed on
your hard drive is not a valid windows xp system image. If you are
installing
from a CD there may be a problem with the windows xp CD.
TO RETRY PRESS ENTER..ETC ETC..
Cambie el cd por si acaso y tampoco funciona, no logro termina la
instalacion porque sigue saliendo mas file q no puede copiar. Y el cd que
estoy usando es con el cual la pc vino. Es original. Quien me ayuda
porfavor?
Sera el hard drive q se da~o? o el cd rom?
