Problemas de instalacion de SQL server 2000 personal

Buenas , recurro a ustedes esperando me puedan dar una pronta respuesta, no
puedo instalar el sql server 2000 personal sobre windows xp sp2, me sale el
sgte error:

"Una instalación anterior del programa creó operaciones de archivos
pendientes en el equipo. Debe reiniciar el equipo antes de ejecutar la
instalación"

tampoco me dejaba desinstalar el que pude instalar en modo seguro (este me
da errores al tratar de ejecutarlo).
