Drivers - SW installation on XP laptop

Ayuda Hacer una pregunta
I have a laptop XP computer. To install a web cam I got
the supplier advice to unclick the driver firm review and
wander if for that matter when doing a reinstallation (for
instance a lexmark printer or the same web cam SW and
driver) I receive always the message "device cannot
communicate".
I think is somthing like if the SW cannot be unistall and
be reinstalled; is there a way I can overwrite this
installations ?
